Coady Photography Chrome Mine will step up in class for Saturday's $50,000 Sadie Hawkins Stakes at Charles Town.

The $50,000 Sadie Hawkins Stakes on Saturday night at Charles Town can be expected to provide starters for the $150,000 Cavada Stakes on the Oct. 10 West Virginia Breeders’ Classic card.

Both the Sadie Hawkins and the Cavada are for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares at seven furlongs.

Trainer David Walters, who has been red-hot at Charles Town, has entered both of his good 4-year-olds, Chrome Mine and Cuppa Mocha Mojo. Chrome Mine is 7 for 9 in her career, and Cuppa Mocha Mojo is unbeaten in five races.

Jose Montano, who is seeking his fourth consecutive Charles Town riding title, is named on both horses. Montano has 142 wins at Charles Town this year and is 52 winners in front in the standings.

On Thursday morning, Walters was pondering whether to run both of his fillies or just Chrome Mine.

“I’m leaning to running both, but I’m not totally sure yet,” he said. “It’s a little quick back for Cuppa Mocha Mojo. It will probably be a last-minute decision if we hang in there.”

Cuppa Mocha Mojo would be making her stakes debut after winning four allowance races and a maiden race. Her narrowest winning margin has been 2 3/4 lengths.

Chrome Mine won the Sylvia Bishop Memorial last August. She is 2 for 2 in allowance company this year.

“Both of them have been going against easier company,” Walters said. “This will be a huge step up for both, but it’s time to do it with the Cavada coming up.”

Chrome Mine (Last 3 Beyers: 67-70-77)

◗ Owned and bred by Michael Miller, she has won each of her starts this year comfortably.

◗ Her dam is Carnival Chrome, who won the Sadie Hawkins four straight years (2005-08) and the Cavada in 2007. She is by Mineshaft.

Sawyer (Last 3 Beyers: 82-78-77)

◗ Trained by Jane Cibelli, this will be her first start against West Virginia-bred company.

◗ She enters off four straight wins: a second-level optional claimer at Delaware, a first-level turf allowance at Monmouth, a $50,000 starter race on turf at Gulfstream, and a $30,000 claiming race on turf at Gulfstream Park West.

Dimples (Last 3 Beyers: 77-74-68)

◗ Based in Maryland with Damon Dilodovico, she comes into this off two straight Charles Town wins.

Red Hot Diva (Last 3 Beyers: 68-71-76)

◗ She was second in the Sadie Hawkins last year.

◗ Had a two-race winning streak snapped last out when she finished fourth in a no-conditions statebred allowance.

◗ Owned and bred by Terri Catlett, she has beaten open-company allowance runners at Charles Town in her last two races.
