Hot pace sets up Skwhirl

Bill Hodtwalker|Aug 13, 2007

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Skwhirl ($20.60) rallied from off a hotly contested pace and drew off through the final furlong to score his fourth career stakes victory in the $15,750 Amadevil Stakes for older Nebraska-breds at Columbus on Saturday night.

Skwhirl, trained and owned by Bob Rising, took advantage of a speed duel between 4-5 favorite Bevys Dazzler and Did, sent off at 9-2. Under Yuri Yaranga, Skwhirl reeled in the leaders through the far turn of the six-furlong race and then swung out to unleash a strong late move and drew off by 2 3/4 lengths, getting the distance in 1:12.60 over a fast track.

Track Hero, a 28-1 outsider ridden by apprentice Chris Fackler, rallied widest through the stretch to edge Bevys Dazzler by a nose for second.
