Hot Market returns from long absence on hillside turf course
ARCADIA, Calif. – Hot Market was in need of a rest after he won an optional claimer for California-breds on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita last April.
“He had lost a lot of weight,” trainer Andy Mathis said. “It took a toll on him.”
The layoff ends for Hot Market in a first-level optional $40,000 claimer against open company at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course in Friday’s seventh race at Santa Anita.
Hot Market drew the outside post in a field of 10 which includes Daddy D T and St. Joe Bay, who were third in graded stakes as 2-year-olds in 2014.
In race 6, Howdy may be ready to break through in an allowance race for California-breds at 1 1/16 miles on the main track.
