Hot Little Kiddy can rebound in Whataway to Go Handicap following troubled trip

Hot Little Kiddy was a bit unlucky to finish third in the Mildred Vessels Handicap for Quarter Horse fillies and mares at Los Alamitos on Sept. 20.

Hot Little Kiddy raced in traffic with about 100 yards remaining in the $125,000 race at 400 yards, forcing jockey Oscar Andrade Jr., to ease the filly to the outside. Hot Little Kiddy recovered to finish well, a half-length behind runner-up Victorioso Dinastia, and galloped out with interest.

A 4-year-old filly by Kiddy Up, Hot Little Kiddy should have a better trip in Friday’s $15,000 Whataway to Go Handicap for fillies and mares at 350 yards. Hot Little Kiddy has drawn the outside post in a field of seven, which reduces the probability of traffic issues from the start.

Andrade is back aboard Hot Little Kiddy, who has won 2 of 19 starts and had her best result in a stakes in the Mildred Vessels Handicap. A successful start on Friday could lead to an appearance in the $50,000 Las Damas Handicap for fillies and mares at 400 yards on Nov. 21.

Trained by James Glenn Jr. for Los Alamitos track owner Ed Allred, Hot Little Kiddy was second in the minor Flight 109 Handicap for fillies and mares at 350 yards on Aug. 9. Hot Little Kiddy is winless in four starts since an allowance race at 330 yards in March.

The Whataway to Go Handicap, named for the 1969 champion 2-year-old filly, is a good spot for Fayvorite Chick, who was second in the Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap at 350 yards on Aug. 29. Trained by Matt Fales, Fayvorite Chick was seventh as a 40-1 outsider in the $185,000 Governor’s Cup Derby on July 26.

All Prettied Up was a troubled fourth in the Sgt Pepper Feature Handicap after bumping with a rival at the start. Trained by Angie Aquino, All Prettied Up won the California Breeders’ Debutante at 350 yards on July 26 for her first stakes win.

The Whataway to Go Handicap is the last of seven races at Los Alamitos on Friday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.
