Horseshoe Indianapolis cancels second straight card due to heat

Horseshoe Indianapolis has canceled its Thursday afternoon race card, citing the extreme heat in the Midwest that already led the track to cancel its Wednesday card.
In a release, Horseshoe said that the forecasted heat index for Thursday is 110 degrees.
The races on the Thursday card will be inserted into the condition book for next week’s racing, Horseshoe said, “so no racing opportunities are lost for the horsemen.”
A severe heat wave in the Midwest has led nearly every track in the region to either cancel race cards or modify their schedules. The heat is expected to linger into the weekend, but Horseshoe said on Wednesday that it expects to race on July 4.
The Wednesday card canceled by Horseshoe earlier this week was moved to Monday. With the additional card, Horseshoe is planning to race six straight days next week.
