Horseshoe Indianapolis cancels Monday, Tuesday cards due to heat
The heat wave moving through the Midwest has led Horseshoe Indianapolis to cancel its Monday and Tuesday live racing programs, the track announced Monday.
Horseshoe Indianapolis was scheduled to run 10 races on the Tuesday program, starting at 2:30 p.m. Eastern. Temperatures in central Indiana are expected to top 100 on Tuesday. The area is currently under a heat advisory that does not expire until Wednesday night.
“The safety of our equine athletes and those who are involved in the racing program is always at the forefront of our concerns,” Eric Halstrom, general manager of the track, said in a press release.
Horseshoe has live racing cards scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. The track said in its announcement that it is planning on racing on Wednesday, but that its officials would “continue to monitor the expected heat indexes” in the region over the next several days.
