Horses to watch at Day 2 of Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The bulk of the catalog for the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale will go through the ring in Monday's second and final session of the sale, which begins at noon on a dark day at Saratoga Race Course.
The opening session of the sale set the stage for Monday's action with an improved average price, led by a $600,000 Hard Spun colt.
Here are some of the horses to watch in Monday's session, largely based on their pages and recent developments on the racetrack. The selections reflect catalog updates and sale outs through Sunday.
Hip No. 416, colt by Hard Spun – Silken Lily, by Grand Slam. Consigned by Summerfield, agent for Sunnyfield Farm.
Hard Spun is fresh off siring Monday’s session-topper to kick off this sale. Silken Lilly, the dam of three winners from as many starters, is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Upstart, a successful runner from the New York-bred program. He has gone on to become a rising young sire, with Grade 1 winner Zandon and Grade 2 winner Kathleen O. among his current 3-year-olds. This page got an additional update with Practice Squad, a statebred stakes winner earlier in the Saratoga meet.
Hip No. 439, filly by Ghostzapper – Thin Disguise, by Yes It's True. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent.
The winning mare Thin Disguise has produced six winners from as many starters, including Grade 3 winner Holiday Disguise and stakes winner Midnight Disguise, who between them have won nine stakes; and Grade 1-placed Forest Caraway. This is the immediate family of Grade 3-winning millionaire Naughty New Yorker.
Hip No. 502, colt by Laoban – Bee in a Bonnet, by Precise End. Consigned by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds, agent.
This colt's stakes-winning half-sister Bank Sting was honored as the champion New York-bred dirt female and female sprinter on Friday night at a ceremony in Saratoga. Stakes-placed Bee in a Bonnet also is the dam of stakes-placed Liberty Island. This is the final crop of yearlings bred in New York by the late Laoban, a son of Uncle Mo stood who his initial seasons in the state with great success before moving to Kentucky.
Hip No. 520, filly by Catholic Boy – Charitable Link, by Data Link. Consigned by Taylor Made Sales, agent.
This is the first crop for Catholic Boy, a Grade 1 winner on both dirt and turf while racing in New York. Unraced Charitable Link is a half-sister to New York-bred millionaire Diversify, a multiple Grade 1 winner.

This is a half-sister to three-time graded stakes winner Horologist, who was also multiple Grade 1-placed.
Hip No. 541, colt by Flameaway – Deputy Cures Blues, by War Deputy. Consigned by Fort Christopher's Thoroughbreds, agent.
Flameaway had one colt chosen for the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale last week, selling for a very strong $425,000. Multiple stakes winner Deputy Cures Blues is the dam of Grade 1-placed stakes winner Wine Police and stakes winner Moon Traveler. This is the family of Grade/Group 1 winners Sweet Lulu and Sol Del Norte, as well as graded stakes winners Anchor Down and Iron Fist.
Hip No. 573, colt by Arrogate – Georgie's Angel, by Bellamy Road. Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent for Longford Farm.
This colt got a massive catalog update on Saturday when his full brother Cave Rock, a $550,000 Keeneland September yearling, won his debut at Del Mar by six lengths, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 101. In the process, he became the fourth winner from five starters out of Georgie's Angel, a graded stakes-winning juvenile. This will be the last of three crops by Arrogate.
Hip No. 581, filly by Practical Joke – Gracilia, by Mr. Greeley. Consigned by Denali Stud, agent.
Gracilia is the dam of five winners from six starters, including stakes winner More Mischief – whose sire, Into Mischief, is the sire of Practical Joke. Gracilia also has produced stakes-placed Myawaya, and this is the family of Grade 2 winner Sharp Humor.
