Horse owner Unger dies at 62

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The successful Woodbine owner John Unger died last Thursday from cancer at the age of 62.

Unger bred and owned the popular Strut the Course, a multiple graded stakes winner with earnings of just more than $1 million. Trained by Barbara Minshall, Strut the Course was voted the Sovereign Award as Canada’s champion older female in 2014.

Unger was a corporate tax lawyer for Torys LLP. He was a member of the Jockey Club of Canada and the Horse Racing Appeal Panel.

Visitation will be at Turner and Porter-Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. in Toronto, on Monday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral will be held at the same location at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (Pencer Centre FPAC Fund).
