Horse of the Day for Friday

Dan Illman|Nov 16, 2006

Aqueduct - Race 6
6 Furlongs (Inner Track - moved from 6 1/2 Furlongs on main track)
Maiden Claiming ($35,000)
3-year-olds and upward, fillies and mares, New York-breds

RAISIN' SILVER broke from the far outside post over a track that favored the inner paths, and was forced very wide turning for home. She kept on to finish a close fourth, and defeated three of today's rivals despite racing against the bias. She'll make the important third start of the form cycle for a barn that's sent out some live runners at the meet, and should be running well in the stretch. POKERISTA looms an intriguing firster for Scott Everett. She is bred for speed on both sides of her pedigree, and sold for $59,000 at OBS last year after zipping a quarter-mile in 22 flat. Her second dam was Grade 3-placed as a 2-year-old. Pokerista probably doesn't have to be much to contend in this spot. KARAKORUM KAREN blew a clear lead last time out, but figures to be the pacesetter in this spot, and speed is always dangerous in maiden claimers. Her Beyer Speed Figures are improving, and she should be prominent when they turn for home. LE CUNAMH DE never got involved after being pinched at the break last time out, but a repeat of that 44 Beyer earned at Saratoga two back would put her in the mix. The addition of blinkers may infuse some speed into her arsenal. WHERES WHITEY tried a route in career debut, and understandably faltered when the real running began. She's been away a long time, but finds a soft spot for her return. LARVOTTO can better her even career debut. MY AIKEN CAT goes out for "live" trainer-jockey combination, and has a strong speed pedigree.

The selection: Raisin' Silver to Win (9/5 odds or more)
