Horse of the day for 5/23

Dan Illman|May 22, 2007

Woodbine - Race 5
6 Furlongs (Polytrack)
Maiden Claiming ($16,000-$15,000)
3-year-olds and upward, fillies and mares
Purse $19,500.

MORO MOO is a half to a multiple sprint winner by millionaire Kiridashi, and a wager on all of trainer Marko Mesic's runners over the past five years would yield a ROI of $2.80. The April 28 workout matches up with Mesic's six-year-old Wicked Devil, a runner that finished third in a $9,500 'N2L' claimer at Woodbine on May 20 with a 56 Beyer. Moro Moo won't face the fastest group of maiden claimers on Wednesday, and is worth a play at a good price.
CRUISIN FOR ACTION hasn't raced since early October, but she seemed to be rounding into form with the addition of Lasix, and has the early speed to be dangerous. Expect her to be near the lead in this spot, but the layoff coupled with the fact that she's never gained ground from the stretch call to the wire makes her an iffy win proposition. FAITH'S WAY has several angles in her favor as she drops sharply in class while making the second start of the form cycle. She passed a few tired horses in her seasonal debut, and should do better with that effort tucked under her grith. At 12-1 on the track's morning line, she represents some value. BLUE EYED TAYLOR is stuck on the also-eligible list, but she is the first foal from the solid sprinter Candy Floss (29-8-4-3, $158,638). She didn't do much in her debut, but shows a solid workout for this, and is eligible to rally from off the pace. BROADWAY HONEY was bet to favoritism for her debut, and ran on well for the place for the high-percentage Attard barn. She takes a confident class hike, and should show good tactical speed.
LUV A MARINE looms a forward factor after chasing the pace against better in her last two races. She failed to ride a speed-favoring track to victory two back, however, and her stamina is suspect. MISS TRUFFLES drops in for a tag for the first time, and she may be ready to roll in the important third start of the form cycle. The gray was saddled with a tough outside post position last time out.

Selections:
1. Moro Moo
2. Cruisin for Action
3. Faith's Way

The wager: Moro Moo to win and place (10-1 odds or more)

YTD record based on starts, wins, top pick in the money, and profit/loss of that day's selection: 40-6-13 +($27.20)
