Purse $14,000. KAT KALD KALAMAZOO gave a good account of himself at Oak Tree considering that was his first start in more than a year. He tracked the pace while three wide going into the turn, went after the leader in earnest on the bend, and hung in there with the top two finishers in the stretch. He finished a nose behind a next-out maiden graduate, and should work out a nice stalking trip while racing in the clear. Expect an improved showing in his second start of the form cycle.
DR. BUSCH also makes his second start following a long layoff, and he should show good speed with the addition of blinkers. He shows a bullet workout over the surface (presumably while wearing his new equipment), and figures to be right there when they swing into the stretch. HOME OF THE BOLD removes the blinkers after missing the break in his first start for this barn. He's been away since May, but may get the proper race setup with several speeds likely to carve out solid fractions up front. He's never been this cheap, and should be running hard late.
MOUNTAINS OF GREEN's sire doesn't have a very good record with first-time starters, and trainer Donald Warren's horses usually do better with a start or two under their belts, but the gelding shows solid workouts for this, and offers value in the exotics. NORTH FLEET STREET draws into the body of the race from the also-eligible list, and can be an early factor despite turning back in distance. Selections:
