Horologist unlikely to run in Breeders' Cup Distaff, but Point of Honor is a go

ELMONT, N.Y. – While Beldame Stakes winner Horologist is unlikely to be supplemented to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff, Beldame runner-up Point of Honor is likely to run in that race on Nov. 7 at Keeneland, Aron Wellman, head of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, which owns the filly, said Monday.
Her presence would give Eclipse a 1-2 punch in the Distaff as it also has Valiance, winner of Sunday’s Grade 1 Spinster at Keeneland.

Point of Honor, trained by George Weaver, is 0 for 5 this year but has three seconds and two thirds, with three of those five races coming in Grade 1 events. In the Beldame, Point of Honor made a belated run to finish second, three lengths behind Horologist. Earlier this year, Point of Honor was beaten a nose by She’s a Julie in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps at Belmont.
Point of Honor also has finished third in both the Apple Blossom and Personal Ensign.
“She’s come so close to winning these Grade 1’s but hasn’t been able to do it,” Wellman said. “This has been our goal all year. Even though she hasn’t gotten into the win column, she’s run well each time. Maybe she’s due for a breakout and will finally get a trip that allows her to trip out.”
Point of Honor did earn a career-best 96 Beyer Speed Figure for the Beldame.
Horologist earned a 100 Beyer for her Beldame victory. She is not Breeders’ Cup nominated, and her breeder and co-owner, Cameron Beatty, said Sunday, “It’s a longshot” that he and the other owners would pay a $100,000 supplemental fee to run her in the race.
It is unclear if Horologist will run again this year, but she is expected to run again in 2021.
