Horologist back with statebreds in Smart N Classy

Horologist has raced once against New Jersey-breds, romping by more than 20 lengths in a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight last August at Monmouth Park.
After facing open company in her last seven races, she returns to the statebred ranks on Sunday for the $75,000 Smart N Classy Handicap at Monmouth Park. The one-mile race is for fillies and mares.
Horologist will carry top weight of 125 pounds while spotting her rivals three to nine pounds each. She’s part of an eight-horse field that includes Crazy Daisy, a six-time winner who invades from Parx, and Billy’s Jump Start, who is looking for her third straight win following scores at Finger Lakes and Monmouth.
Horologist is 2 for 2 over the main track at Monmouth. Her first local win came in her debut last August, when she dominated male statebred rivals.
Last out, she captured an optional $25,000 claiming route here on May 25. Horologist stalked the pace and went on to a five-length win in the one-mile and 70-yard race, which marked her first start against older rivals. The 3-year-old daughter of Gemologist earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 90. The number is the best last-race and career Beyer in the Smart N Classy.
Horologist could get an ideal stalking trip behind the handful of sprint-to-route prospects in Sunday’s race. Joe Bravo has the mount from post 3 for Theres A Chance Stable and trainer John Mazza.
The chief threat appears to be Crazy Daisy, who carries 121 pounds. She is stretching back out around two turns following a runner-up finish in a first-level allowance May 26 at Parx. Crazy Daisy is returning to a Monmouth track over which she is a two-time winner. Dexter Haddock has the mount on the mare, who is by Sky Mesa. Crazy Daisy is out of Shezacrazygirl, a four-time stakes winner who raced in Louisiana and who earned $396,800.
