Hoosier Park track report

Bill Hodtwalker|Sep 15, 2004

Lester Knight reached the 3,000-win milestone on Sept. 8 when he guided Swift Sefa to victory in the seventh race. Knight, who began his riding career in his native Panama, won several riding titles at the old Detroit Race Course and was the leading rider at Hoosier in 2002. Knight is third in the current standings here with 16 wins.

Knight registered a four-bagger on Sept. 3, as did Rodney Prescott. The pair accounted for eight of the 10 races that night.

Ramsey Zimmerman leads the rider standings with 21 wins, while Prescott is second with 17.

Zimmerman registered a four-baggeron Sept. 6. He is currently fifth in the nation for races won with 231 victories from 844 mounts, good for a 27 percent win average.

* Mr Mag was a 2 1/4-length winner over $4,000 starter allowance company on Hoosier's seven-eighth-mile oval last Friday, to collect his sixth win of the year over his fifth different track. Trained by Steve Manley for the S. T. C. Racing Stable, Mr Mag started out his year with a half-length win at Fairmount Park on May 27. He since has claimed victories at Indiana Downs, Mountaineer, Ellis, and now Hoosier.

* Love of Money, the romping 8 1/2-length winner of the Grade 2 Pennsylvania Derby on Sept. 6, is under consideration for this track's showcase attraction, the Grade 2, $500,000-added Indiana Derby on Oct. 2. Love of Money, trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., earned an eye-catching 112 Beyer Speed Figure in his first start around two turns.

Nominations for both the Indiana Derby and the Grade 3, $400,000-added Indiana Oaks, to be run Oct. 1, will close this weekend. Both races are contested at 1 1/16 miles.
