Hoosier Park: Three-year-old male pacers square off in Indiana Sires Stakes elims
Shnitzledosomethin and On Duty scored victories in two $20,000 Indiana Sires Stakes eliminations for sophomore colt and gelding pacers that were held on Friday night over the sloppy going at Hoosier Park.
Driven by Peter Wrenn, Shnitzledosomethin sat on the cones in the pocket and then the three-hole in the first elimination, pulled to the outside in mid-stretch, and came on to win in 1:50 4/5. Jims Perfect Ten (Sam Widger) led early, yielded for the two-hole, came up the passing lane in the stretch, and was second-best, with Rockinbeach (Ricky Macomber Jr.) coming on from seventh to third in the final quarter.
A colt by Fred And Ginger, Shnitzledosomethin is trained by Dylan Davis for owners BFJ Stable, Thomas Lazzaro, Ed Gold, and Abe Basen. Shnitzledosomethin posted his eighth career win, and he has now earned $432,837. He was the 2-1 second choice and paid $6.20 to win.
In the other elimination On Duty (Trace Tetrick) sat fourth through opening-half fractions of 27 2/5 and 56 1/5, then pulled first-up and got into a joint second at the 1:24 4/5 three-quarters. On Duty was able to sustain his brush into the lane, took over just before the edge of the toteboard, and held safe to the wire, stopping the clock in 1:51 2/5. Just N Ace (Macomber Jr.) was the runner-up, with Rockin Speed (Lewayne Miller) third.
Bill Crone trains the victorious Rockin Image gelding for owner John Barnard. On Duty is now a three-time winner in his life, and he pushed his bankroll to $64,014. On Duty was the 4-1 third choice and returned $10.80 to win.
