Hoosier Park: Fiftydallarbill grabs the cash in Indiana Sires Stakes elimination
Breeders Crown champion Fiftydallarbill made his first appearance in his home state of Indiana since May a winning one, capturing one of two $20,000 Indiana Sires Stakes eliminations for sophomore trotting colts on Saturday night at Hoosier Park.
Driven by Trace Tetrick, Fiftydallarbill made front passing the 27 3/5 opening quarter, and after middle-half stations of 57 1/5 and 1:26 1/5 over the sloppy going, a 27 1/5 final quarter got him to the wire three-parts of a length to the good in 1:53 2/5. Katkin American, who went off as a slight favorite after dominating the last round of Indiana Sires Stakes action for the group, was second after an impressive first-up grind in the back-half, and Jail King (Jay Cross) came in third.
William Crone trains Fiftydallarbill, a colt by Swan For Fall who is eligible to the Hambletonian, for owner John Barnard. This was Fiftydallarbill's 11th career victory, and he has now earned $563,747. He paid $4.20 to win.
In the other elimination it would be Guccio gelding Got The Groove winning by two lengths in 1:55 1/5 after a first-up trip. He was driven by John De Long, who also trains and co-owns Got The Groove with Jesse De Long. Admiral Dewey (Mike Oosting) came in second, with All On Black (Tetrick), the heavy favorite, finishing third after leading most of the way.
Three-year-old pacing fillies also raced in a pair of Indiana Sires Stakes elims, and the first one of those went to Dee Rocks and Tetrick in 1:53 1/5. She looped into the lead going to the half and held sway from there, winning by a pair of lengths over It's Time For Fun (Brandon Bates), with Neverforgetwhour (Elliott Deaton) third. Dossie Minor trains the victorious daughter of Rockin Image for owners Ronald Phillips and John Carver.
Mildrix won the other sophomore pacing filly elimination in 1:53 3/5 for driver Pete Wrenn and breeder/owner/trainer Kelly Goodwin. The Real Desire filly took the lead passing the opening quarter and held off a charging Debt Motivated (Ross Leonard), prevailing by three-parts of a length. Gate Speed (Bates) was third after a two-hole journey.
