A nose separated victorious Sunny Star from runner-up Telecom Fighters the last time they met in a 1,650-meter Class 2 handicap at Happy Valley. They meet again in Happy Valley’s featured sixth race Wednesday and this time a major shift in the weights could change the dynamic.   Wednesday’s contest, like the one on Nov. 17 where Sunny Star nipped Telecom Fighters, is a Class 2 for horses rated 100-80 and will be decided after one lap, 1,650 meters, around Happy Valley's unusual course. In the Nov. 17 race, Telecom Fighters, who nearly always races prominently, fought off a pace rival but could not quite match late strides with Sunny Star, who was getting 14 pounds from Telecom Fighters. Sunny Star, off a fine second-place finish Jan. 5 in the Group 3 January Cup over 1,800 meters at Happy Valley, had his rating raised five points to 90, and this time around, he gets only a five-pound break, 132 to 127, from top-rated Telecom Fighters.   :: Hong Kong: Free PPs, picks, analysis, replays, and live streaming :: Download DRF's Guide to Betting Hong Kong Racing The two horses ran in the same Class 2 over 1,800 meters on Dec. 12 at Happy Valley, Telecom Fighters fading to finish 10th, Sunny Star going evenly for seventh. While the latter went on to improve in the January Cup, another 1,800-meter race, Telecom Fighters switched to Sha Tin dirt, finishing a creditable fourth in a Dec. 29 Class 1.   Telecom Fighters could take pace pressure from Beauty Joy, who stretches out from one-turn, 1,400-meter sprints at Sha Tin while making just his fifth Hong Kong start. Beauty Joy struggled in a pair of starts last season but has a win and a second in his two races this campaign, and while racing in Australia, where he won all four of his starts, Beauty Joy successfully stayed 1,800 meters. He gets seven pounds from Telecom Fighters and should run well, provided he handles the transition from the more expansive Sha Tin course to Happy Valley.   C P Brave, another horse with limited Hong Kong experience, has turned in mildly competitive Sha Tin Class 2 performances and raced respectably last season in his only Happy Valley start. He should benefit cutting back to 1,650 meters with a relatively short homestretch after trying 1,800 meters at Sha Tin his last two outings.  And, finally, it’s worth noting that Joao Moreira booked himself to ride Savaquin for trainer John Size. Savaquin has made 20 Hong Kong starts; partnered with Moreira he’s gone 4-2-1-1, while he’s 16-1-3-1 for all other riders. Savaquin has been freshened since Dec. 8, when he ran poorly after breaking from post 12 in an 1,800-meter Happy Valley start.  First post for the card is 5:45 a.m. Eastern. California Spangle in this Class 2 handicap over 1,200 meters went straight to the front under Zac Purton and came home a 1 1/2-length winner over Trillion Wine, from whom he got nine pounds (133-124). California Spangle, a 4-year-old Starspangledbanner gelding trained by Tony Cruz, won a pair of griffin races (or 2- or 3-year-olds imported unraced to Hong Kong) last season. After finishing second by a nose facing Class 3 handicap competition to start this season, California Spangle has gone wire to wire in a Class 3 and two Class 2s, winning all three by at least one length.
