Hong Kong: Trump finds good spot in East Point Handicap

Steve Andersen|Mar 27, 2017

Trump may be on the verge of a win.

In Wednesday’s East Point Handicap at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong, Trump, an 8-year-old gelding, is part of a field of 12 in a six-furlong turf race. An Australian-bred, Trump was second in a lower-class race at Happy Valley on March 8 for horses with handicap ratings ranging from 40 to 60.

The East Point Handicap is for horses rated 60 to 80. Trump has a handicap rating of 62 and has been assigned 119 pounds, 14 pounds less than highweight Peace N Prosperity, who has a rating of 76.

The East Point Handicap is the last of eight races at Happy Valley on Wednesday. Wagering is available through DRFBets.com.

Trump is winless in seven starts this year. In the March 8 race, the gelding closed well to finish a half-length behind Perpetual Joyance in a race at five furlongs. The longer race on Wednesday could help Trump, who has won 7 of 59 starts in his career.

Earlier on the Happy Valley program, the imports All Best Friends and Right Honourable will have their first start in Hong Kong in the Ewo Challenge Trophy at five furlongs on turf

All Best Friends, an Australian-bred by Street Cry, won a maiden race in Australia last April. He was 10th and eighth in group stakes in August and September.

Right Honourable, an Irish-bred by Famous Name, had three starts in Ireland last year, winning his second start in a maiden race at Galway. He was later sixth of seven in a minor stakes at Tipperary.

Wayfoong Vinnie, a 5-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding, will be favored in the Ewo Challenge Trophy. He won his last start against a similar field at five furlongs on turf on March 15 at Happy Valley, and will be ridden by Joao Moreira, the leading rider in Hong Kong this season.
