Hong Kong: E-Super eyes three in a row in turf sprint

Steve Andersen|Oct 03, 2016

Two six-furlong turf handicaps are the leading races on an eight-race program Wednesday at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong.

First post is 7:15 a.m. Eastern.

E-Super, a 5-year-old Australian-bred gelding, is the 133-pound topweight for the first division, the third race on the program. E-Super is on a two-race winning streak, having won six-furlong handicaps in January and February at Happy Valley.

The third race, worth $159,231, drew a field of 12, and E-Super will be a threat from off the pace. Diamond Master is likely to set the pace. A 5-year-old gelding, Diamond Master won a five-furlong turf handicap at Happy Valley in May and was third in a six-furlong race on the all-weather track at Sha Tin on Sept. 11 in his only start of the current season.

In the second division, the eighth race, Super Leader can end a three-race losing streak in a shorter race than his recent starts. Super Leader won a seven-furlong handicap on turf in March but lost his final two starts of the 2015-16 season and his first start this year – an eighth-place finish at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sept. 18.

Super Turbo is an intriguing runner. The 3-year-old will make his fourth start in Hong Kong on Wednesday and is already a winner, in a six-furlong handicap on turf at Happy Valley in July. He was sixth in his first start this season, on Sept. 21.

A 3-year-old Irish-bred colt, Super Turbo won a minor race at Fairyhouse Racecourse in Ireland in September 2015 before being transferred to Hong Kong.

Lucky Profit will attract support after finishing second in his last start Sept. 7. He won a six-furlong handicap on turf in April.

The eighth race is the Hong Kong debut of Star of Yan Oi, a maiden race winner in New Zealand last year when he raced under the name Callahan.
