Honey’n Roses paid decent prices while reeling off three straight wins for trainer Pam McDougall, but she should be favored when she runs in a $40,000 optional claimer for 3-year-old fillies that will serve as Friday’s feature at Northlands Park. The 6 1/2-furlong dash drew six horses and will go as race 4 on the eight-race card that begins an hour earlier than usual at 6 p.m.Honey’n Roses earned a career-best 75 Beyer Speed Figure when she took a big step up in class to win a $32,000 optional claimer going 6 1/2 furlongs by 2 3/4 lengths Sept. 6. If she can repeat her eye-catching performance coming back in 11 days, she’ll be tough to handle. Honey’n Roses was coming off of an easy win in a one-mile race for $12,000 claimers Aug. 14 and also romped in a $7,000 sprint for nonwinners of two July 24.According to jockey agent Graham Niblett, McDougall wasn’t able to watch Honey’n Roses’s last two wins because she is in a local hospital recovering from internal injuries suffered in a fall. “It has been a rough spell for her, but she is doing a lot better lately and she seems to be on the right side of things now,” Niblett said.Assistant trainer Kenny Tingle has been running the barn in McDougall’s absence. Honorable Lady ships in from Assiniboia Downs, where in her last two starts she finished fourth in the $30,000 Jack Hardy on Aug. 28 and third in the $50,000 Assiniboia Downs Oaks on Aug. 2. She will be making her first start for trainer Dale Saunders.Sexy Eleanor is gunning for her fourth win in a row after a front-running win over $12,000 claimers Aug. 22.
