Hollywood surface is good again

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Hollywood Park’s Cushion Track was used for training Monday, one day after rain inundated a section of the track and forced the cancellation of three races.

Hollywood Park sustained approximately an inch of rain on Sunday, and approximately six-tenths of an inch in a short period of time around 2 p.m. Jockeys said after the sixth of nine races on Sunday that uneven areas had developed on the backstretch and voted not to ride.

“We probably had six-tenths right at the fourth race, in a short big burst,” Dennis Moore, Hollywood Park’s track surface consultant said on Monday. “Up until then, I hadn’t heard anything about the track. I’ve seen them race on a lot worse. It was a small area on the backstretch.”

The surface recovered quickly and was used for full training on Monday morning, with 21 recorded workouts.

The forecast for Thursday calls for the possibility of a small amount of rain.
