Hollywood Pick 6 Carryover chat highlights

DRF Staff|Jul 14, 2011

DRF Handicapper Steve Andersen stopped by for a live chat with DRF.com users prior to today's Pick 6 Carryover at Hollywood Park. Here are the highlights, including his top picks for each race:

Steve Andersen: Looks like a good pick six today, maybe $800,000 to the pool.

SA: Top picks for each race: Race 3 - Subpoena the Dress, big barn switch and a class drop.

SA: Race 4 - Town Belle, making a key class drop from maiden special weight to maiden claimer. The fourth is one race where I think it's a spread race for a multi-race bettor.

SA: Race 5 - Chiloquin, a threat from just off the pace. Kingpin Ryno, goinng back to sprints, adding blinkers, has big kick

SA: For the sixth race, I prefer Chiolquin, who was beaten a neck from just off the pace in an allowance race on June 9. He should like 6 1/2 furlongs.

SA: Race 7 - Unzip Me, big class edge, training well and a threat from just behind hot pace.

SA: Race 8 - Run For Miles, trained by Peter Miller, excellent with first-time starters. K Js Maddog, who has been training in Utah, merits a look.

SA: Morning line on Irish Gypsy should be 5-2 or 3-1 is possible. There will be support for her and Ultra Blend.

SA: The A Gleam is a very strong betting race on Saturday afternoon. Preferring Ultra Blend over Irish Gypsy, by the way.

SA: General Pick Six strategy: I just want to get through the first two legs without having to go too deep. Then, let's see what happens.

SA: King Ryno and Chiloquin are vital for my ticket. They are not morning-line favorites, but I think they can run well.

SA: With Pedlars Way, I'm a little discouraged by the draw, but a big move to get Martin Garcia. He's got to break well.

SA: I may plan a late pick 3 with # 4 and and # 6 in 6th race, Unzip Me (#3) in 7th, and #3 and #6 in 8th. Also, could use Pedlars Way (#1) in 8th.

SA: Run For Miles is preferred, but K Js Maddog, who has been training in Utah, merits a look.

SA: Even though the 8th has just seven starters, more than one selection is advised.

SA: Steve Andersen For Unzip Me, I would lean toward a pick six key rather than single race wagers.

SA: On Your Mark seems to fade on cue somewhere inside the eighth pole, in sprints and routes, turf, dirt and synthetic.

SA: I was a bit surprised to see Warren's Blossom in the seventh, thought she'd go for the A Gleam on Saturday.

SA: Remember the first-quarter mile times of turf races over six furlongs at Hollywood Park are timed almost from a standing start. As a result, a first-quarter time of 22 or 22.60 seconds, should almost be recognized as being a half-second quicker on another turf course.
