Hollywood Park: Tiz Flirtatious possible for Matriarch

Tiz Flirtatious, who was sixth in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, is expected to stay in training in 2014, and could start in the $250,000 Matriarch Stakes at a mile on turf on Dec. 1.
Tiz Flirtatious won the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in September. In November 2012, Tiz Flirtatious was second in the Matriarch Stakes in her first start in a Grade 1.
The Matriarch Stakes is on the schedule of Egg Drop, winner of the Grade 2 Goldikova Stakes on Sunday, closing day of the Santa Anita autumn meeting. Owned by Little Red Feather Racing and trained by Mike Mitchell, Egg Drop won her second consecutive Grade 2 race in the Goldikova, having won the Yellow Ribbon Handicap at Del Mar in September.
New York-based trainer Chad Brown said last week that he has two Matriarch candidates in Dayatthespa and Pianist.
Dayatthespa, fifth in the 2012 Matriarch, was second in the Grade 1 First Lady Stakes at Keeneland on Oct. 5. Pianist won the Grade 3 Athenia Stakes at Belmont Park on Oct. 12.
New team starts out well
Juddmonte Farms has horses with trainer Bob Baffert for the first time this year. The partnership began with a winner last Sunday at Santa Anita with a maiden race win by the 2-year-old Beach Hut.
By First Defence, Beach Hut stalked the pace in a field of 12 and took the lead in early stretch. Beach Hut drew off under Martin Garcia to win the six-furlong race by 3 1/4 lengths, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 72. Beach Hut was purchased for $200,000 at the 2012 Keeneland September yearling sale.
