Hollywood Park: Streaming impresses in Hollywood Starlet

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The future for the 2-year-old filly Streaming intrigues trainer Bob Baffert as much as the way she won Saturday’s $500,500 Hollywood Starlet at Betfair Hollywood Park.
“I think she’s a really special filly,” Baffert said.
Streaming made her stakes debut in the Grade 1 Starlet and had an ideal trip under jockey Martin Garcia to remain unbeaten after two starts. Streaming stalked pacesetter Taste Like Candy for the first six furlongs, took the lead in early stretch, and won by 1 1/2 lengths over Taste Like Candy, who was making her stakes debut.
Streaming ($23.60) ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.96. Untapable, who won the Grade 2 Pocahontas Stakes at Churchill Downs in September, finished third, followed by Rosalind, who was third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Santa Anita on Nov. 2.
Baffert insisted to Garcia that he keep Streaming near the front in her first start around two turns.
“I knew that [Taste Like Candy] was a nice filly,” Baffert said. “I said to Martin, ‘I want you close. I don’t want you too far back. Let her run, and if she’s good enough, she’ll get it done.’ Today, she showed she was very special.”
Streaming beat maidens in a six-furlong maiden special weight race here Nov. 15, closing from fourth in a field of 10 to win by 1 1/2 lengths. By Smart Strike, Streaming is owned by John Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings and Edward McGhee. After the maiden-race win, Sikura and Baffert decided to supplement Streaming to the Starlet for $10,000.
“When I saw she was 14-1 [before the race], I told John, ‘When you supplement, you’re supposed to be 8-5,’ ” Baffert said in the winner’s circle. “I was hoping she’d run like she trained.”
Streaming has earned $287,000 for her two wins.
Rosalind was the 8-5 favorite in the Starlet. She was followed in the order of finish by Arethusa, Bajan, Be Proud, and Concave.
