Hollywood Park: Officials announce retroactive purse hike
The final meeting at Hollywood Park last autumn ended with a purse underpayment of more than $500,000 that will be distributed in coming weeks, according to Joe Morris, president of the Thoroughbred Owners of California.
The purse payments will be made to owners who had horses earn purses in overnight races.
Morris said that Hollywood Park officials continue to collect revenue from offtrack wagering venues, a process that will continue in coming months. Morris said that the total underpayment could reach $600,000. Hollywood Park has agreed to distribute $500,000 in coming weeks, with additional monies to be dedicated to purses at a future meeting at another track.
“It will go to one of the [upcoming] meeting’s overnights,” Morris said. “That’s a good bonus going in.”
Hollywood Park closed for racing after its 2013 autumn meeting.
