Hollywood Park notes: Lady of Shamrock to get more ground

Benoit & Associates Trainer John Sadler says he wants to ensure Lady of Shamrock will have sufficient pace to set up her kick when she makes her next start in the Gamely at Betfair Hollywood Park.

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Lady of Shamrock, a two-time Grade 1 winner in 2012 who was third in the Grade 1 Gamely Stakes for turf females on Monday, is likely to make her next start outside of California.

Sadler said that Lady of Shamrock will be considered for races beyond the Gamely distance of 1 1/8 miles on turf, with the $200,000 New York Handicap over 1 1/4 miles on turf at Belmont Park on June 29 and the $200,000 Modesty Handicap over 1 3/16 miles on turf at Arlington Park on July 13 as possibilities.

In the Gamely, Lady of Shamrock finished 4 1/4 lengths behind race winner Marketing Mix, who was a head in front of Tiz Flirtatious.

“It looks like the other two are better right now,” Sadler said. “She wants to run further this year.”

In past years, Sadler could have considered running Lady of Shamrock in the Beverly Hills Handicap for fillies and mares over 1 1/4 miles on turf, but Hollywood Park did not schedule the race this year.

At least eight for Affirmed

The $100,000 Affirmed Handicap over 1 1/16 miles on Sunday is expected to have a field of eight 3-year-olds.

Den’s Legacy, who won the Grade 3 Generous Stakes on turf here last November and was sixth in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park on April 13, makes his first start on the synthetic main track here since a third in the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity in December.

The other expected entrants are Broadway Empire, Counting Days, Dice Flavor, Dirty Swagg, Just Win Baby, Manando and Tiz a Minister.

Dice Flavor won the Grade 3 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields in February and was eighth in the $2 million United Arab Emirates Derby at Meydan in Dubai on March 30.
