Hollywood Park: Newly acquired Shared Belief targets Prevue

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Shared Belief, a Candy Ride gelding who won his debut at Golden Gate Fields on Oct. 19, was recently acquired by trainer Jerry Hollendorfer on behalf of a partnership, and will start in Sunday’s $100,000 Hollywood Prevue Stakes at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Shared Belief joined Hollendorfer's stable in late October, and has worked twice at Hollywood Park. Tuesday, Shared Belief worked six furlongs in 1:13.20.
Hollendorfer said last weekend that Shared Belief has been acquired by himself, Jim Rome, Alex Solis II, George Todaro, and Jason Litt. Rome, familiar to sports fans for his sports talk shows, was a co-owner in Mizdirection, the winner of Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint for the second consecutive year.
Hollendorfer said discussions about acquiring Shared Belief began after the gelding won a six-furlong maiden race by seven lengths. Time Jumper, a first-time starter trained by Hollendorfer, was second in that race.
“I didn’t think there was anybody in there that could beat Time Jumper,” Hollendorfer said. “I was wrong.”
Corey Nakatani is booked to ride Shared Belief, who beat maidens for owners Marty and Pam Wygod.
The Grade 3 Prevue Stakes is run at seven furlongs. The race includes Kobe’s Back, who won the Willard Proctor Memorial Stakes in June, but did not start in the summer because of concern over a knee. Kobe’s Back has recorded several quick works in recent weeks for trainer John Sadler.
All Breeders’ Cup horses clean
There were no positives drug tests from the Breeders’ Cup races, the California Horse Racing Board reported on Monday.
The racing board conducted prerace blood tests for excessive carbon dioxide levels on all horses entered in Breeders’ Cup races. Post-race tests for prohibited medications were taken from the first four finishers in each race, and selected other runners.
The racing board said that 25 percent of the pre-entered horses underwent random out-of-competition tests, which were also negative, according to racing board equine medical director Rick Arthur.
The tests were conducted at the Kenneth Maddy Equine Analytical Chemistry Laboratory at UC-Davis, which conducts drug testing for the racing board.
Romantica will stay in U.S.
Romantica, second to Dank in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, will remain in the United States with trainer Bill Mott, according to Juddmonte Farms racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe.
Romantica finished a half-length behind Dank in the Filly and Mare Turf, her first start in the U.S. Previously trained by Andre Fabre in France, Romantica, 4, won three group stakes in France, highlighted by the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet at Deauville in August. The daughter of Galileo has won 4 of 11 starts and earned $771,362.
Marketing Mix retired
Marketing Mix, fifth in the Filly and Mare Turf, has been retired, trainer Tom Proctor said.
Owned by Glen Hill Farm, Marketing Mix was scheduled to leave Southern California for Florida on Wednesday.
Marketing Mix won 10 of 21 starts and earned $2,015,893. She won two Grade 1 races – the Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita in 2012 and the Gamely Stakes at Hollywood Park in May – and was second in the 2012 Filly and Mare Turf.
