ARCADIA, Calif. – Vic Stauffer, the track announcer at Hollywood Park, will work as a steward at four tracks on the California fair circuit later this year, he said on Tuesday. Stauffer, 51, will continue his work at Hollywood Park and will be a steward at the Sonoma county fair in Santa Rosa in late July and early August, the Humboldt county fair in Ferndale in August, the Los Angeles county fair at Fairplex Park in Pomona in September and the Big Fresno fair in October. “I think I can do a good job, but it is uncharted territory,” he said. “I’ll do the best I can.” Hollywood Park has two race meetings this year – from April 21 to July 17 and from Nov. 9 to Dec. 18. Stauffer said racing board officials worked with him to avoid a conflict with Hollywood Park’s racing dates, allowing him to continue his work as an announcer. “That was incredibly gracious for the board to let me do that,” he said. The assignments are the first time that Stauffer has worked as a steward. In addition to his job as a race commentator, he has worked as an analyst on the TVG network and as a jockey’s agent in recent years for riders such as Joel Rosario and Tyler Baze. Stauffer has not worked as an agent since last summer. He called three race meetings at Hollywood Park last year – the track’s two traditional seasons and the Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meeting.
