Hollywood Dayton: Buckeye Stallion Series champions determined

Greg Reinhart|Sep 29, 2019

The Buckeye Stallion Series, which is for Ohio-sired horses just below the sire stakes level, wrapped up for 2019 with eight $60,000 Championships for 2-year-olds and 3-year-olds on Sunday at Hollywood Gaming Dayton Raceway.

Trainer-driver Dan Noble was the only multi-time winner during the events, winning the 2-year-old colt and gelding pace with Big Bad John gelding Bargain Shopper in 1:54 3/5 for owner Chuck Grubbs and the 3-year-old colt and gelding trot with Break The Bank K gelding Morally Flexible in 1:53 2/5 for owners Bruce Soulsby and Dalton Walls.

Dream Change (Brett Miller), the 2-5 favorite, was victorious on the engine in the 2-year-old filly trot Championship to kick off the day, stopping the clock in 1:59. A daughter of Winning Fireworks, Dream Change is trained by Pam Young for owner Big Dog Racing.

Penpaperpaige (Tyler Smith) sat a pocket trip in the 2-year-old filly pace and then exploded in the lane, drawing off to win by four lengths in 1:52 2/5, a track record effort. The victorious daughter of Pet Rock is trained by Jeff Smith for owner/breeder Shirley Le Vin.

Herecomescharlie B (Ryan Stahl) cut the fractions and kept a first-over try by longshot Smoking Jet (B. Miller) at bay to win the 2-year-old colt and gelding trot with Herecomescharlie B in 1:58. Dan Venier bred, owns, and trains Herecomescharlie B, a gelded son of Full Count.

Twentyfour K Magic (Aaron Merriman) popped the pocket to take command past the opening quarter and remained in front from there, winning the 3-year-old filly trot by a neck in 1:56 3/5. Tye Loy owns and trains Twentyfour K Magic, a daughter of Dontyouforgetit.

Gypsy Merlot (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) fronted the field in the 3-year-old filly pace and reported home with a one and quarter length win in a final time of 1:53 3/5. Gypsy Merlot is a filly by Feelin Friskie who is owned and trained by Al Tomlinson.

Big See, driven by Kayne Kauffman, rounded out the Buckeye Stallion Series champions, taking the 3-year-old colt and gelding pace by two lengths in 1:51 1/5 after cutting the mile. Big See, a Big Bad John gelding, is owned and trained by Philippe Belanger.
