Holliday elected chairman of NYRA board of directors
OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Marc Holliday on Thursday was unanimously elected chairman of the New York Racing Association’s board of directors, the company announced following a meeting of the board.
Last month, Holliday was tabbed as the interim chair when it was announced that Michael Del Giudice was retiring from that role.
Holliday, 55, is a Thoroughbred owner who races under the banner Blue Devil Racing and campaigned the Grade 1 winner Come Dancing. He joined the NYRA Board in 2014 and served as the chairman of NYRA’s Equine Safety Committee since 2015. Holliday is the chairman and CEO of SL Green Reality Corp. which is New York City’s’ largest owner of office properties.
“I am honored to succeed Michael Del Giudice and grateful for his work returning NYRA to a period of sustained excellence and financial stability,” Holliday said in a NYRA press release. “Michael skillfully guided the association through a time of uncertainty, and NYRA today is as strong as any point in its history. Horse racing is an engine for the New York economy and deeply intertwined in the cultural fabric of the state. It is a privilege to play a role in the future of the sport I care so deeply about.”
The retirement of Del Giudice and resignation from the board early in 2020 by George Russo, an Assembly appointee in 2017, leaves two spots open on the NYRA Board of Directors which will be filled at a later date.
