Hollendorfer nears 4,000th win

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer scored two victories at Bay Meadows on Wednesday to move within two wins of the 4,000 mark for his career.

Hollendorfer has three runners entered Thursday in his bid to become the sixth trainer in history to reach the 4,000-victory mark. Dale Baird is the all-time leader with 8,905 victories followed by Jack Van Berg, King Leatherbury, Richard Hazelton and D. Wayne Lukas.

Hollendorfer won Wednesday's opening race with Rippin N Roarin and the third with Conquestress. His other two Wednesday starters both finished third. Sempai was beaten 1 1/4 lengths in the fourth race and Crafty Babe was beaten six lengths in the sixth race.

Hollendorfer, northern California's leading trainer, has won 27 straight training titles at Bay Meadows and 24 at Golden Gate Fields.
