Hollendorfer has four to take on Alert Bay in All American Stakes

It will seem like old times for handicappers assessing Monday’s Grade 3, $100,000 All American at Golden Gate Fields. Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer will be represented by four runners in the nine-horse field, and a legitimate case can be made for each of his runners.
“Each has a different style,” Hollendorfer said.
There’s nothing new about Hollendorfer sending out multiple live runners except that each likely will take a backseat in the wagering to Alert Bay, who has won both of his starts this year, including the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile on turf in his last start after getting a perfect trip.
G. G. Ryder, the winner of the San Francisco Mile and All American in 2015, is back on his game after some disappointing efforts last year.
“I guess you can describe him as a warrior,” Hollendorfer said of the 6-year-old Chhaya Dancer horse, who was second in the San Francisco Mile after running third behind Alert Bay in a prep race.
Although he has two wins, three seconds, and a third in graded stakes, G. G. Ryder has trailed Alert Bay in each of their eight meetings.
Point Piper beat Alert Bay when he won the Longacres Mile last summer.
“He’s formidable, and he ran in a Grade 1 in his last start,” said Hollendorfer.
Ike Walker, claimed by Hollendorfer on Jan. 1, comes north for the first time. “There’s nothing much down south for him, so we’re sending him north,” Hollendorfer said.
Hollendorfer knows he’s asking a lot of Street Lad, who has won two straight and three of his four races since stretching out.
“He’s steadily improving, so we’ll give him a chance,” Hollendorfer said of the speedy runner.
Alert Bay’s trainer, Blaine Wright, said his horse is ready for all comers.
“He’s doing good, maintaining his weight,” he said. “The mile is his best distance, and we get to run at home.”
