Jerry Hollendorfer is making it as hard on handicappers as he is on his fellow trainers here Saturday in the $50,000-added Golden Gate Debutante at Golden Gate Fields. He sends out what appears to be the standout duo of stablemates Seduire and Lutine Belle and names Golden Gate’s two top jockeys, Russell Baze and Ricardo Gonzalez, to ride. Baze rode Seduire to victory in the Wine Country Debutante in her lone Northern California start at Santa Rosa. She looms the likely favorite on paper, sporting the two highest Beyer Speed Figures, but Hollendorfer will use Gonzalez on her. Gonzalez did win the Golden Nugget, the colts’ version of this race, for Hollendorfer aboard Stalk the Wildcat. Baze is 2 for 2 on Lutine Belle. She’ll likely be last early, but few finish like Baze, so that could be the reason for the assignment. Can Can Babe, the stakes-placed Wedding Blush, and Indian Rocket, a half-sibling to R Heat Lighting, a Grade 1 winner at age 2, round out the small field. Key contenders Seduire (Last 3 Beyers: 75-68-75) * Most accomplished runner in the field with a Santa Rosa stakes win and two Southern California stakes seconds. She’s finished in the exacta in each of her five starts except the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, in which she set the pace in the seven-furlong race before fading late. Would tab her as the lone speed, but Wedding Blush did sit close to fast fractions in winning an allowance race at Los Alamitos. She proved quicker than Wedding Blush in their lone meeting and is advantageously drawn directly outside of her here in the No. 2 post. Wedding Blush (Last 3 Beyers: 65-67-67) * She’s never been off the board in five starts, winning three and running second and third in two stakes tries. The rail draw is no help, but she did run second after taking the lead in the stretch in the one-mile Pike Place Dancer in her last start. She sat back early that day, but her rail draw here could force her to flash a bit more speed early. Has lower Beyers than the Hollendorfer stablemates, but her past two starts suggest she’s tough and improving. Lutine Belle (Last 3 Beyers: 71-71-65) * Toss out the poor try in a Grade 1 route, which nonetheless earned a high Beyer, and you have to like what you see. She’ll be last early, but she comes flying late. She’s 2 for 2 with Baze and has a pair of bullet drills since a game sprint win over another of today’s rivals, Can Can Babe, at 5 1/2 furlongs in her last start.
