Hold That Tiger out of Gladness

Alan Shuback|Apr 04, 2003

Hold That Tiger has been withdrawn from Sunday's Gladness Stakes at The Curragh and instead will head straight to the 2000 Guineas without benefit of a prep race.

Trainer Aidan O'Brien made the decision not to run Hold That Tiger - winner of the Grand Criterium and third in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile - in the seven-furlong Group 3 Gladness against older horses on Friday morning. He said it would be asking too much of the 3-year-old Hold That Tiger to carry a Group 1 burden against good older horses like One Won One and Wrong Key, a 4-year-old filly who won a listed race last weekend.

O'Brien will be represented in the Gladness by Marino Marini, a Group 1-placed colt who will wear blinkers for the first time.

Hold That Tiger will have a public workout at The Curragh after Sunday's races in preparation for his 2000 Guineas date at Newmarket on May 3.
