Hold for More faces just four in Victor S. Myers

SHAKOPEE, Minn. – On a busy weekend for top Minnesota-breds, the 3-year-olds come to the fore Saturday at Canterbury Park for renewals of two six-furlong stakes, the $60,000 Victor S. Myers for colts and geldings and the $60,000 Frances Genter for fillies.

Hold for More, a 5 1/4-length winner of last August’s Northern Lights Futurity, heads a quintet of geldings in the Victor S. Myers. Trained by Francisco Bravo, Hold for More kicked off his 2015 campaign with a gutsy head win over his elders in a June 6 Minnesota-bred allowance sprint.

Keith’s Legacy, who was 2 for 2 in May, seeks an upset and is progressing for trainer Tony Rengstorf. Well beaten when fifth behind Hold for More and another Myers rival, Rocknlikahurricane, in his lone juvenile effort last August, Keith’s Legacy closed stoutly to beat winners by 2 1/4 lengths in a May 30 Minnesota-bred allowance dash.

KEY CONTENDERS

Keith’s Legacy (Last 3 Beyers: 64-46-29)

◗ This steadily improving runner poses a threat, and jockey Hugo Sanchez is 4 for 12 in 2014-15 when riding for Rengstorf.

Hold for More (Last 3 Beyers: 73-51-56)

◗ The meet’s leading rider, Dean Butler, retains the mount and has won at a 28 percent clip for the Bravo stable in 2014-15.

Prayintheprairie (Last 3 Beyers: 35-57-38)

◗ This speedy gelding has the distinction of having handed Hold for More his lone loss last August.

Chris Mars (Beyers: 37-12)

◗ He makes his 2015 debut, and this half-brother to top Minnesota-bred Bourbon County is named after the drummer for the famed Minneapolis rock band The Replacements.

Robertson fillies meet in Genter

Sioux Appeal and Shaboom, two talented fillies conditioned by Mac Robertson, begin an intriguing rivalry in the Frances Genter.

Sioux Appeal, victorious in the Northern Lights Debutante last August, notched a tenacious half-length tally over the 4-year-old Stellabrini in a June 4 Minnesota-bred allowance sprint. Shaboom is untested in a pair of romps this season. The U S Ranger filly won her maiden by 7 3/4 lengths on May 30 and returned June 18 for a 9 1/4-length score against Minnesota-bred allowance foes.

KEY CONTENDERS

Sioux Appeal (Last 3 Beyers: 46-46-52)

◗ Jockey Alex Canchari, second in the standings at Prairie Meadows with a 45-for-209 mark, climbs back aboard.

◗ She signaled her readiness with a bullet four-furlong breeze in 47.80 seconds on June 27.

Silver Magna (Last 3 Beyers: 48-47-41)

◗ She used tactical speed in a 1 1/2-length allowance win over Minnesota-breds on May 31.

◗ A five-furlong bullet breeze in 1:01.40 last Sunday should have this Mike Biehler trainee ready for her best try.

Shaboom (Beyers: 64-51)

◗ She gets a class test and will again be partnered with Butler, who has won 41 percent of his races for Robertson in 2014-15.

North Sky (Last 3 Beyers: 57-14-40)

◗ This improving closer could be aided by a demanding pace, as all five of her Genter rivals have raced on or near the lead.
