Hits Pricey Legacy takes Remington Park Oaks, Jackpot Baby wins Gaylord Memorial

C.R. Trout put the Oklahoma-bred program front and center Sunday at Remington Park when he won the track’s Grade 3, $200,000 Oaks with Hits Pricey Legacy and the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial with Jackpot Baby.
Trout is the breeder, owner and trainer of both Oklahoma-bred fillies. The races were among eight open-company stakes on Oklahoma Derby Day at Remington.
Hits Pricey Legacy ($24) came into the Remington Park Oaks off a win over restricted company in the fillies division of the Oklahoma Stallion Stakes. She let the pace go Sunday, as Juju’s Map, who lost her footing shortly out of the gate, moved up quickly to take the lead from Free Like a Girl through an opening quarter in 24.46 seconds.
The pair continued on through a half-mile in 49.13 and six furlongs in 1:11.14. Hits Pricey Legacy advanced four wide on the final turn, went after leader Free Like a Girl into the stretch, and stormed home to cover 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:45.39.
“The plan was to sit behind the speed,” winning rider Jose Alvarez said in an interview broadcast by Remington. “She ran great.
“I let her do her job.”
Hits Pricey Legacy won by two lengths over Free Like a Girl, while it was another length back in third to 2-5 favorite Juju’s Map.

Double for Broberg
Owner Jerry Namy, trainer Karl Broberg and jockey Cristian Torres teamed up to win a pair of stakes on the night, with Flash of Mischief in the $150,000 David M. Vance Sprint and Island Hideaway in the $75,000 Ricks Memorial.
Flash of Mischief ($11) was cutting back to one turn for the Vance after running second in the Governor’s Cup over 1 1/8 miles in August at Remington.
“He’s that kind of horse – he runs any distance you put him in,” Torres said in a post-race interview broadcast by Remington. “He always gives 100 percent.”
Flash of Mischief sat off a contested pace Sunday, as a trio of runners dueled through an opening quarter in 22 seconds and Empire of Gold and Macron continued on through a half-mile in 44.88 as Flash of Mischief advanced on the turn.
The eventual winner came barreling through the stretch for a 6 1/4-length win over Empire of Gold. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third to El Pando.

Island Hideaway ($10) became a stakes winner when she found a way off the rail and quickened through the stretch in the Ricks Memorial. Torres guided the daughter of Mukhadram to a 2 1/2-length victory over favorite Angel Palm. The winner covered the 1 1/16 miles for fillies and mares on firm turf in 1:42.15.
