His Race to Win flies home in Seagram Cup

ETOBICOKE, Ontario — His Race to Win blew by everybody in the stretch to take the Grade 3, $178,500 Seagram Cup Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.
Four horses vied up front through soft fractions in the 1 1/16-mile event, including Sky Captain, who went four-wide on both turns after missing the break. His Race to Win ($16.10) commenced a wide rally from sixth midway on the far turn, and prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:43.35.
Sky Captain edged out Peyton for second, while the favored Alpha Bettor faded to bring up the rear after lacking room along the inside in the lane.
Eurico Da Silva rode His Race to Win, who earned $108,000 for Sam-Son Farm and trainer Malcolm Pierce.
“Malcolm brought this horse over ready today,” said Da Silva. “He was in very good shape. The pace was very slow. He was running relaxed, and when I picked him up at the quarter pole, he kicked very strong.”
Eff Bee Eye captures Nandi
Eff Bee Eye came three-wide from third to capture Sunday’s supporting feature, the $125,000 Nandi Stakes for Ontario-sired juvenile fillies.
With Patrick Husbands aboard, Eff Bee Eye ($9.70) won off by 3 1/4 lengths over front-runner She’s Explosive, in 1:11.17 for six furlongs. She collected $75,000 in her first stakes tally for the partnership of Rolph Davis and trainer Bob Tiller.
“I always through of her as a finishing type,” said Tiller. “We were lucky enough to draw an outside post today, [from] where could relax a little and then go after the speed. It all worked out well.”
