Hips to watch at OBS June sale

Following are horses to watch at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. sale of 2-year-olds and horses of racing age, based on their pedigrees and past auction performances. Presale under-tack show performance, conformation, physical characteristics, veterinarian records, and late pedigree updates were not taken into consideration.

Hip No. 33, b. c., Scat Daddy—Hangingbyamoment, by Thunder Gulch, consigned by James Layden, agent.

A full brother to Grade 2 winner Conquest Daddyo and a half to stakes winner Hangingbyathread. Sold for $105,000 at last year’s Keeneland September yearling sale and was a $145,000 RNA at the OBS March sale.

Hip No. 138, Times Square, gr. or ro. c., Tapit—Magical Feeling, by Empire Maker, consigned by Eddie Woods, agent.

Dam Magical Feeling is a Grade 2 winner, and her first foal to race is a winning full brother to this colt. Times Square was bought back for $375,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

Hip No. 271, b. c., Smart Strike—Race to Urga, by Bernstein, consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent.

A half-brother to Grade 1 winner Gormley from the family of 1990 Horse of the Year Criminal Type and champion Estrapade. He was a $70,000 RNA at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

Hip No. 323, ch. c., Concord Point—Sambuca Classica, by Cat Thief, consigned by Randy Bradshaw, agent.

Champion Classic Empire is a half-brother to this colt, as are stakes winners Anytime Magic and Uptown Twirl.

Hip No. 528, ch. c., Tapit—Avid, by More Than Ready, consigned by Harris Training Center, agent.

The page for this colt includes champion sprinter and prominent sire Speightstown, Canadian champion Silken Cat, Grade 1 winner Turk Passer, and Grade 2 winners Star Dabbler, Irap, and Hear the Ghost.

Hip No. 582, gr. or ro. c., Tapit—Christmas Star, by Star de Naskra, consigned by Hoby and Layna Kight, agent.

Blue-hen mare Christmas Star has produced Grade 1 winner Cuvee; Grade 2 winner Will He Shine; Grade 3-placed Harpoon (a full brother to this colt); stakes-placed runners Catera, Range Rider, and Christmas Party; and stakes producer Snatched. He sold for $40,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall yearling sale.

Hip 731, ch. c., Tapit—Pretty City, by Carson City, consigned by de Meric Sales, agent.

A full brother to Grade 1 winner Pretty City Dancer and a half to Grade 1 winner Lear’s Princess.
