Hips to watch at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale

The following are horses to watch at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling sale, based on their pedigrees and the past auction performance of notable family members. Physical conformation, veterinarian records, and late pedigree updates were not taken into consideration.

Day 1

Hip No. 14, ch. c., Distorted Humor–Modeling, by Tapit, consigned by Eaton Sales, agent

The second foal out of the unraced Modeling, who sold for $2.85 million at the 2014 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. His third dam is 2007 Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour, putting him in the family of champion Rags to Riches, Belmont Stakes winner Jazil, and Grade 1/Group 1 winners Streaming, Peeping Fawn, and Thewayyouare.

Hip No. 30, Just Eat’n Bonbons, dk. b. or br. f., Candy Ride–Princess Arabella, by Any Given Saturday, consigned by Lane’s End, agent

Princess Arabella’s fourth foal. Her first two to sell brought $750,000 (a Tapit filly) and $400,000 (a Speightstown colt).

Hip No. 40, b. c., Bodemeister–Recollect, by El Prado, consigned by Warrendale Sales, agent for Tall Oaks

A half-brother to Grade 2-placed stakes winner Elusive Collection, who is Recollect’s first starter. His second dam is the multiple Grade 1 winner Memories of Silver, putting him in the cornerstone Darby Dan family that includes Grade 1 winner Winter Memories and Grade 3 winner La Cloche.

Hip 44, b. c., Medaglia d’Oro–Rigoletta, by Concerto, consigned by Gainesway, agent

Battle of Midway, a Grade 3 winner and third-place finisher in this year’s Kentucky Derby, is a half-brother to this colt and the first foal to race out of Rigoletta. Champion female sprinter Musical Romance is in the extended family.

Hip 48, gr. or ro. f., Tapit–Lady of Fifty, by After Market, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent

The second foal out of Grade 1 winner Lady of Fifty. Her first, also by Tapit, was a $625,000 RNA at last year’s Saratoga sale.

Hip 75, Tap to My Lu, ch. f., Tapit–Sweet Lulu, by Mr. Greeley, consigned by Gainesway, agent

The second foal out of Grade 1 winner Sweet Lulu, who sold for $3 million at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale. Her first foal, a War Front colt, brought $700,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

Hip No. 79, gr. or ro. f., Pioneerof the Nile–Tap of the Day, by Pulpit, consigned by Four Star Sales, agent

Tap of the Day, whose first foal to race is a winner, is a full sister to Grade 1 winner and dominant sire Tapit. The page also features champions Summer Bird and Rubiano, Grade 2 winner Madefromlucky, and Grade 3 winner Glitterman.

Hip No. 80, gr. or ro. c., Tapit–Tap Your Feet, by Dixieland Band, consigned by Lane’s End, agent

Tap Your Feet’s four winners from six runners includes Grade 1 winner Diamondrella, who is a group stakes producer, and Grade 1-placed stakes winner Bonnie Blue Flag.

Hip No. 81, b. c., Uncle Mo–Teak Totem, by Northern Afleet, consigned by Baccari Bloodstock, agent

Stakes winner Teak Totem’s five winners from seven runners include Grade 2 winner Adios Charlie and stakes-placed Streakin Mohican. This colt sold as a weanling for $250,000 at last year’s Keeneland November sale.

Hip No. 89, gr. or ro. c., Distorted Humor–Unacloud, by Unaccounted For, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent

A half-brother to Grade 1 winners Overanalyze and Meadow Breeze, as well as Grade 1-placed Majesto and Grade 2-placed Mighty Monsoon.

Hip No. 124, dk. b. or br. c., Speightstown–Appealing Zophie, by Successful Appeal, consigned by Denali Stud, agent

This colt is a half-brother to Belmont Stakes winner Tapwrit, who sold for $1.2 million at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale.

Hip No. 135, dk. b. or br. f., War Front–Maryinsky, by Sadler’s Wells, consigned by Dromoland Farm, agent

English Group 1-placed Maryinsky’s three winners from four runners include European champion Peeping Fawn and French Group 1 winner Thewayyouare. This filly sold as a weanling at last year’s Keeneland September sale for $650,000, and a half-sister by Fastnet Rock brought $1 million at the 2015 Keeneland September sale.

Hip No. 144, Runaway Uncle, b. c., Uncle Mo–Bootery, by Storm Boot, consigned by Four Star Sales, agent

Grade 2 winner Neck ’n Neck is a half-brother to this colt, who sold as a weanling for $290,000 at last year’s Keeneland November sale.

Hip 150, b. c., Uncle Mo–Bullville Belle, by Holy Bull, consigned by VanMeter-Gentry Sales, agent

A half-brother to Grade 1 winner Connect and stakes winner Tani Maru. Observation Post, a Johannesburg colt out of Bullville Belle, sold for $700,000 as a yearling.

Hip No. 193, ch. f., Malibu Moon–Gloat, by Mr. Greeley, consigned by Cara Bloodstock, agent

The third foal out of winner Gloat, who sold with this filly in-utero for $550,000 at the 2015 Keeneland November sale. Her roots trace deep into the Phipps breeding program, with second dam On Parade, third dam My Flag, and fourth dam Personal Ensign.

Hip No. 207, Bad Dude, b. c., Eskendereya–Im a Dixie Girl, by Dixie Union, consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent

Multiple Grade 1 winner Mor Spirit is a full brother to this colt, who was a $190,000 RNA at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November sale.

Hip No. 216, b. c., Scat Daddy–Kaloura, by Sinndar, consigned by Gainesway, agent

Kaloura, a French Group 2-placed stakes winner, is from the family of European champion Kalanisi, Group 2 winner Kalaman, and Group 3 winner Kareena.

Hip No. 222, gr. or ro. f., Tapit–Last Full Measure, by Empire Maker, consigned by Bluewater Sales, agent

The third foal out of Grade 1 winner Last Full Measure, who brought $1.5 million at the 2014 Keeneland November sale. A War Front filly out of the mare sold for $600,000 at last year’s Keeneland September sale.

Last Kitten’s three foals to race are all black-type earners – stakes winners Leadem in Ken and Prissy, and Grade 3-placed Hint of Roses. Hint of Roses is a full brother to this filly. Last Kitten is a half-sister to champion and top sire Kitten’s Joy and a full sister to Grade 1 winner Precious Kitten.
