Hill wins race on working vacation

Jockey Channing Hill, based in New York, took his annual working vacation back to the Midwest earlier in the week. With Belmont dark Sunday through Tuesday, Hill flew to Des Moines, Iowa, to visit family and friends, and brought his tack along with him.

He rode at Prairie Meadows on Monday and Tuesday, and won with the second mount of his abbreviated stay aboard Miss Del Gallo in Monday's fifth race.

* It appears that trainer Anne Mitchell has another fast 2-year-old in her stable. In the first start of her career, Forest Whispers broke a five-year-old track record last Friday when she romped home a 10-length winner while covering the 4 1/2 furlongs in 51.01 seconds.

* The Prairie Meadows qualifying tournament for the 2008 Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship will be held June 21.
