Hill ’n’ Dale Announces 2027 Stud Fees
Hill ’n’ Dale at Xalapa has announced its stud fees for the 2027 breeding season, with two-time Horse of the Year and breed-shaping sire Curlin leading the roster.
“We are meticulously managing Curlin, affording him the respect he deserves as one of the most influential and preeminent sires in recent memory,” said Hill ’n’ Dale’s John Sikura. “We will continue to test breed Curlin and determine his book size prior to the breeding season. It is very encouraging we tested two mares in foal this fall, which gives us great optimism he will return to service.”
With the 43rd Breeders’ Cup set for later this month, Curlin remains the only stallion to have sired the winners of three Breeders’ Cup races on the same day in back-to-back years. His fee has been set as Private.
Good Magic, the Champion son of Curlin, will stand for a fee of $80,000 LFSN in 2027. He is one of only three stallions ever, along with Man o’ War and Gallant Fox, to sire an American Classic winner in each of his first two crops. Good Magic’s 2026 yearlings are his best-bred to date, which was reflected in the marketplace with sales of $1,600,000, $1,100,000, and $1,000,000 last month at Keeneland September. He has also become a significant sire of sires, with no fewer than five of his sons standing at stud in Kentucky.
Maclean’s Music, the sire of multiple Grade 1 winners and one of the industry’s most consistent sources of elite speed, will remain at $30,000 LFSN in 2027. Currently ranked 16th on the General Sire List with progeny earnings approaching $9 million, Maclean’s Music is led in 2026 by Bacio, winner of the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes in his last start at York. Bacio is slated to make his next start in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1) at Keeneland, where he is likely to be one of the favorites.
Uncle Mo’s Grade 1-winning son Arabian Knight, who was the most popular horse ever to retire to Hill ’n’ Dale when entering stud in 2025, will be represented by a stellar group of first-crop weanlings this November. Arabian Knight’s 2027 fee will remain at $30,000 LFSN.
Army Mule continues to be well respected and well received by breeders and buyers alike, with his yearlings selling for up to $450,000 and 2-year-olds selling for up to $750,000 this year. Widely recognized as one of the industry’s value sires, Army Mule will remain at a fee of $25,000 LFSN in 2027.
Leading second-crop sire Charlatan has emerged in 2026 with a strong group of first-crop 3-year-olds leading the way. True to the sire line—with both Speightstown and Charlatan emerging later in their racing careers—his progeny have followed suit. Charlatan ranks second on the Second-Crop Sires List, behind only Yaupon, by graded stakes winners, graded stakes horses, and black-type horses. Charlatan will stand for $20,000 LFSN.
Into Mischief’s brilliant son Barnes, who was trainer Bob Baffert’s early Derby favorite a year ago, returned to sprinting in his last start in the Perryville Stakes (G3) at Keeneland, which he won by 8 1/4 lengths to become the early favorite for the Malibu Stakes (G1). In just his second start, Barnes impressively captured the San Vicente Stakes (G2) by 5 1/2 lengths at Santa Anita. An appreciation for Barnes’ prospects as a sire was reflected in the $4.2 million price paid for his full brother at the Saratoga Sale in August. Barnes, whose first foals arrive in 2027, will again stand for $15,000 LFSN.
New to the Hill ’n’ Dale roster for 2027 is Gun Runner’s Grade 1-winning son Brant. A record-breaking $3 million 2-year-old at OBS, Brant quickly delivered on his promise by capturing the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in his second start. In his debut, he broke his maiden impressively, earning TDN Rising Star honors and a 6 Ragozin, which would prove to be the fastest speed figure earned by a 2-year-old in 2026. Brant will stand for an introductory fee of $20,000 LFSN and is available for inspection.
Ghostzapper’s Grade 1 son Loggins has been well represented by his first crop of yearlings in 2026, including a $550,000 colt sold at the prestigious Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Sale. The precocious Loggins will stand for $5,000 LFSN in 2027, when his first crop of 2-year-olds is set to hit the track.
