Highway Star puts in strong work for BC Filly and Mare Sprint

ELMONT, N.Y. – While her fellow New York-breds are gearing up for Saturday’s New York Showcase Day program at Belmont Park, Highway Star put in a strong workout Thursday morning in preparation for her next start in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Del Mar on Nov. 4.
With regular jockey Angel Arroyo aboard, Highway Star worked five furlongs in 59.91 seconds over Belmont Park’s main track. She went in splits of 12.56 seconds, 24.69, 36.31, and with Arroyo just showing her the whip in deep stretch, she got her final quarter in 23.60.

“It was a sharp work,” trainer Rodrigo Ubillo said. “We were looking for that type of work. We’re very satisfied.”
Ubillo plans one more work at Belmont either next Wednesday or Thursday, and Highway Star is scheduled to ship to Del Mar on Thursday. She will not have a work at Del Mar.
