High North to take a break

Coady Photography High North returned $6.60 for his victory in Friday's Iowa Derby.
High North, a multiple stakes winner who ran third in the Grade 3, $300,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs in his last start Sept. 2, is being freshened, trainer Brad Cox said Monday.
“He came out of his race in good order,” Cox said. “We’re giving him a break. He’s been in training for a while, performed well for us all year.”
High North won the $150,000 Northern Spur in April at Oaklawn and from there was fourth in the Grade 2 Peter Pan at Belmont Park before capturing the $250,000 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows. He also ran third in the Grade 3 West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer one start before the Super Derby.
High North is a son of Midnight Lute who races for Arkansas-based Shortleaf Stable.
