High Heel Sneakers ends long drought

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - High Heel Sneakers won her first stakes in more than two years in Sundays $70,525 Hermosa Beach Handicap at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, High Heel Sneakers had an ideal trip, stalking pacesetter Brushed Gold and Rushen Heat before taking the lead in early stretch. Sent off favored, High Heel Sneakers ($5.60) drew off in the final furlong to win by 2 3/4 lengths, running 1 1/2 miles on turf in 2:28.58.

Brushed Gold finished second, 1 1/4 lengths in front of Caprice in the field of nine fillies and mares.

High Heel Sneakers won for the first time in four starts in this country. Owned by Christopher Wright and trained by Ben Cecil, High Heel Sneakers, 5, has won 3 of 20 starts and $212,137. She won a minor stakes in England in October 2006, her most recent victory prior to Sundays race.
