Hezthewonforus will need his speed in Sheung Wan Handicap

Steve Andersen|Oct 03, 2019

An inside post for Hezthewonforus in Sunday’s Sheung Wan Handicap at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong is likely to force jockey Joao Moreira to put his mount on the lead.

A start from post 12 of 14 may work in favor of Fast Most Furious, who has shown the ability to reach contention with a late rally.

Those two are the principal runners in the $267,816 Sheung Wan Handicap, the last of 10 races on the Sha Tin program.

The speedy Hezthewonforus has been favored in his last three starts, but has not raced since a fifth-place finish in a seven-furlong handicap at Sha Tin on July 14 in which he set the pace to the final furlong and was beaten two lengths by Fast Most Furious, who closed from 12th to lead in the final strides.

Trained by John Size, Hezthewonforus has won 2 of 8 starts in Hong Kong. He won a seven-furlong handicap at Sha Tin in May. Moreira, the leading rider this season in Hong Kong, retains the mount.

Fast Most Furious, who is trained by David Hall, was second in his first start of the current 2019-20 Hong Kong season, finishing second by a head in a seven-furlong handicap at Sha Tin behind 29-1 Gold Chest, who starts in Sunday’s race.

Zac Purton, the leading rider in Hong Kong in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons, keeps the ride on Fast Most Furious.

Gold Chest, who will carry 123 pounds on Sunday, won for the first time in Hong Kong in his eighth career start on the circuit on Sept. 1. A 4-year-old Kentucky-bred by War Front, Gold Chest had his first two starts in England racing under the name Naval Intelligence for Jane Chapple-Hyam.

Naval Intelligence won the Sir Henry Cecil Stakes at Newmarket in July 2018 in his final start in that country. Horses frequently have their names changed when they are sent to Hong Kong.

Morethanlucky, a five-time winner in Hong Kong, is the 133-pound highweight, carrying one pound more than Fast Most Furious. Hezthewonforus is third in the handicap, at 129 pounds.

Morethanlucky is winless in eight starts since a seven-furlong handicap at Sha Tin last October.
