Heza Louisiana Dash favored in futurity
Heza Louisiana Dash should go favored on Friday in the richest race of the Fair Grounds meet for Quarter Horses, when he takes on nine others in the $286,560 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sale Futurity. The race is one of four stakes on the closing-day card in New Orleans. The program starts at 12:30 p.m. Central.
Heza Louisiana Dash set the fastest qualifying time for the LQHBA Sale Futurity, a restricted Grade 1, when he captured the ninth of 10 trial races at Fair Grounds on Aug. 15. He covered 350 yards in 17.33 seconds, bettering the standard of 17.38 seconds that Louisiana Jambalaya had established in the second trial. They are the two fastest qualifiers and will break side-by-side on the outside, with Heza Louisiana Dash in post 9, and Louisiana Jambalaya in gate 10.
Heza Louisiana Dash won his trial by two lengths in what was his second dominant win from three career starts. Kenneth Roberts trains the horse for T M Ranch. Louisiana Jambalaya was a one-length winner of his trial, and the score was his second from three outs. Justin Dehart trains for Mykelia Carter and Roderick Carter.
Coonascorona, a maiden, won a shake to get into the LQHBA Sale Futurity field as he tied with Hallowed for the 10th fastest time during trials. The most accomplished member of the field is Party With Braxton, by virtue of his second-place finish in the Grade 2 Mardi Gras Futurity at Louisiana Downs in March.
