Hey Kiddo gives Preciado fourth win on card in Roamin Rachel match race
Trainer Ramon Preciado enjoyed a big day Saturday, both at home and on the road.
About 30 minutes after Preciado’s 4-year-old colt Amelia’s Wild Ride pulled off a 14-1 upset in the off-the-turf, $150,000 Woodford Stakes at Keeneland, the Parx Racing-based trainer scored in another $150,000 stakes when the 4-year-old filly Hey Kiddo won a match race against Monaguska in the Roamin Rachel at Parx.
It was also the fourth win on the card for Preciado, the runaway leader in the trainer standings at the suburban Philadelphia track.
Hey Kiddo ($2.40), who began the season racing for a claiming tag against nonwinners-of-three lifetime company, won her third straight race and first stakes.
The original field of seven fillies and mares was decimated by five scratches, due to the combination of a wet track and a quarantine in effect because a horse on the grounds tested positive for the equine herpesvirus.
Ridden by Joshua Navarro, Hey Kiddo was in front of the 6-year-old Monaguska throughout the six-furlong Roamin Rachel and coasted home 7 1/2 lengths in front after completing the distance over a surface rated “good” in 1:10.90, Her $90,000 share of the purse boosted Hey Kiddo’s career bankroll to $$355,768 for owners JAG Racing and Jettany Thoroughbred Corp.
