He's Comin in Hot wins Texas Stallion Stakes in return
He’s Comin in Hot returned to his home state Saturday night after racing at Saratoga and won the $75,000 colts and geldings division of the Texas Stallion Stakes at Retama Park. The race for 2-year-olds was one of four restricted stakes on a program designed to complement inductions into the track’s Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
Retama put on a trackside gala before the races to enshrine the latest members of the Hall. Those inducted were Lukin Gilliland Sr., Stanley Beard, Sammy Jackson, Ken Armbrister, Dan and Jolene Urschel, and No Le Hace.
He’s Comin in Hot ($4.40) came into the Texas Stallion Stakes off a fifth-place finish July 25 in the Grade 3 Sanford at Saratoga. One start prior, he captured the Grade 3 Bashford Manor at Churchill Downs. He’s Comin in Hot always was prominent Saturday night, attending an opening quarter of 22.43 seconds, then shaking pace rival Bravura through a half-mile in 45.53. He proceeded to cover six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.45.
He’s Comin in Hot won by 1 1/4 lengths over Bravura, while it was another 1 1/4 lengths back in third to Texas Chrome, a previously undefeated multiple stakes winner. Bret Calhoun trains both He’s Comin in Hot and Bravura. Jamie Theriot was aboard the winner Saturday night for Doug Scharbauer.
In the $75,000 fillies division of the Texas Stallion Stakes, Too Much Prada ($16.20) won by 1 1/4 lengths over Thievery. She covered six furlongs in 1:12.79. David Cabrera was aboard for Hall’s Family Trust and Danele Durham.
Cabrera completed a stakes double on the night when later on the program he also took down the $50,000 Texas Hall of Fame Stakes aboard wire-to-wire winner Special U F O ($4.60). Special U F O took command of the statebred turf stakes from the start, and after setting fractions of 24.33 for the opening quarter, 48.72 for the half-mile, and 1:12.53 for six furlongs, he went on to cover 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.86. Special U F O won by 3 3/4 lengths over Fly the Red Eye. Allen Dupuy trains the winner for Southwestern Racing.
I Am Jane Dough ($9.40) closed from last to win the $50,000 Fiesta Mile by three-quarters of a length over Infectious. The turf race was for fillies and mares bred in Texas. I Am Jane Dough covered the distance in 1:36.99 on firm ground. Deshawn Parker rode the winner for Rose M. Chandler and trainer Danny Pish.
