Hersh: Fair Grounds horses to watch for week of Feb. 20, 2019
LAWTON
Trainer: Bret Calhoun
Last race: Feb. 15, 4th
Finish: 5th by 1 3/4
Beyer: 80
The turf course seemed to be strongly favoring the inside paths when this race was run, and this horse, breaking slowly in his first start back from a long break, was wide, then wider throughout the turf sprint.
BANGLE GAL
Trainer: Mike Stidham
Last race: Feb. 16, 5th
Finish: 3rd by 2
Beyer: 60
First-time-starting 3-year-old filly lost all chance here at the start. Traffic, moved wide from the back of bulky field over a track that either was fair or a little biased toward front-runners. Good sustained run for third and should graduate next time.
LIMONITE
Trainer: Steve Asmussen
Last race: Feb. 16, 12th
Finish: 5th by 7 1/4
Beyer: 81
First start in three months following a good run in the Kentucky Jockey Club, and Asmussen said during the week before the Risen Star that this horse would need this start. So, couple expected next-start improvement with a traffic-filled trip here, and he has Louisiana Derby exotics potential at a price.
