Hersh: Del Mar late pick five play for Saturday, July 27, 2019
Two bets on the second half of the July 27 Del Mar card, featuring the Bing Crosby Stakes, race 8. I’m playing the Bing Crosby to melt down with too much heat on the front end. LINE JUDGE (#4) is the one I like best and I’ll bet $25 to win on him, while doubling up in the late pick five.
Here’s the rest of that pick five play with a few notes.
50-cent Pick 5 ticket, races 5-9, Del Mar, July 27, 2019
Race 5: 4, 6
Race 6: 5,9,10
Race 7: 1,2,10
Race 8: 4,5
Race 9: 2,3,6,7
Total: $72

Race 5: Think they gave a $50K maiden-claiming debut to $12K sales buy CROSS TOWN (#4) to try and win this $20K maiden today. Guessing DON’TTEASETHETIGER (#6) sent to the front in what looks like a relatively paceless race.
Race 6: Had to dig very deep to separate these Cal-bred N1X alw / $20K claiming dirt sprinters at all. A lot of them (I’m looking at you, Ishi) look better on paper than they travel. I had it down to long-layoff comebacker POLICY (#9) and mercurial FASHIONABLY FAST (#10) before seeing the glowing DRF workout report on PERFECT WAGER (#5).
Race 7: Why won’t GREAT RETURN (#1) stretch out? She looks most talented, though overseas import TRUE TO HERSELF (#2) appears competent and well prepared for U.S. debut. Outside-drawn MONGOLIAN WIDOW (#10) finally rounded back to form last time.
Race 8: This is the Bing Crosby. Two deep with closers.
Race 9: Not much to go on with these 2-year-old one-mile turf MSW fillies. Spread among four and hope for the best!
